If everything feels heavy right now, you are not alone.
Vital programs are being slashed, leaving families to stretch what they have even further. Across our neighborhoods, immigrant families live under the constant threat of surveillance and separation, loved ones taken without warning, homes broken apart by policies made far from the realities they impact. Our children are witnessing communities fray at the seams, not because of failure but deliberate disinvestment. And all around us, the systems we rely on—education, child care, housing, healthcare—are buckling under pressure instead of evolving toward justice
Yet here’s the truth we know deep in our bones: even when national policy threatens to shake our foundations, our roots are local and strong.
Here in Forsyth County, we see powerful things rising.
We see parents organizing to protect and reimagine Pre-K. We see students using their voices to shift school culture. We see community coming together to fight for affordable, quality housing for all. We see neighbors gathering food, sharing stories, and checking in on one another—not because they were told to, but because it’s who they are. Because hope, for us, isn’t an abstract idea. It’s a daily decision. A local practice. A shared heartbeat.
We will not pretend the road ahead is easy. Cuts to Medicaid, Child care subsidies, SNAP benefits, student loan access, and other critical supports are not just numbers on a spreadsheet: they are stress on real families and real futures. But what we build together locally can act as shields and seeds, protecting our communities while planting the future we all deserve.
So we ask:
- What if hope looked like community gardens feeding our families?
- What if resilience were a community-rooted movement in which healing and shared power guided us toward what it truly means to thrive?
- What if transformation showed us showing up (not perfectly, but fully) for each other?
Thriving Together is more than a name.
It’s a call to action. A recognition that the solutions we need already live here: in the wisdom of our elders, the dreams of our young people, and the deep love we carry for this place and one another.
We’re building a movement rooted in joy and justice, not just survival. And you belong in it. We know you carry voice, vision, power, passion, and love, and this work is richer, deeper, and more possible because of you.
Whether you’re a neighbor, a teacher, a student, an artist, a caregiver, an elder, or a leader, you have a role in this moment. Together, we will keep choosing each other, again and again, as we move forward.
This August, we urge you to bring that hope with you.
At Change Takes Root: A Thriving Together Convening, we’ll move beyond updates and into action. Rooted in the spirit of Being a Better Ancestor, our August 26th convening offers space to co-create solutions, deepen cross-sector alignment, and commit to the shared governance and collective responsibility our moment demands.
Community brilliance is the heartbeat of this convening. You bring yours, and we’ll bring ours. Together, we’ll explore some powerful tools like the Wellbeing Portfolio and Aligned Contributions Model, and the Manifesto for Justice, a community-authored guide for the work ahead. What are you bringing to this moment of realignment, reimagination, and recommitment?
Because even in the face of national uncertainty, hope has a hometown. And it lives right here.
